“We must make it our business to improve lives!”
Johannes Jahns
BEing human Foundation is concerned with a critical issue in our modern world, and its impact on global development:
- The relationship between our needs as individuals and those of society as a whole!
All of us see an obviously catastrophic and growing imbalance, in which the world’s most pressing social needs are being neglected – and where our immense human value and potential is not nearly being fulfilled! The recent global financial meltdown only accelerates this imbalance, and it will drastically widen the number and geographical scope of those affected.
BEing human believes that greater social understanding and responsibility are essential in our behavior as individuals, groups or organizations. We want to help redress the vast and growing imbalance in our use of resources in order to address inequality and poverty. Our present State of World Affairs really is mostly a human crisis! We must address this crisis with innovative and whole-hearted measures if we are to avoid a general breakdown of civilizations in the coming decades, as the breadth and depth of human poverty and suffering have become unbearable.
Vaclav Havel once said: "Without a global revolution in the sphere of human consciousness, nothing will change for the better in the sphere of our being as humans, and the catastrophe toward which this world is headed - be it ecological, social, demographic or a general breakdown of civilization - will be unavoidable! We are still incapable of understanding, that the only genuine backbone of all our actions, if, they are to be moral, is responsibility! Responsibility to something higher than my family, my country, my company, my success - responsibility to the order of being where all our actions are indelibly recorded and where they will be properly judged."
Our foundation’s maxim is "We make it our business to improve lives"! The connotation is on making it literally our business to achieve such!
Our goal is for BEing human Foundation to partially or wholly own a hotel venture, thereby being able to return 100% of its profits commensurate to equity, to society through targeted development programs of our global NGO society! In this manner, we will return wealth generated through professionally and well-managed, self-governing enterprises, to where resources are most needed!
Our foundation’s values in terms of business conduct are based on firm leadership principles of providing a vision, leading by example, challenging the course, enabling others to act and warming the heart. High standards of transparency and accountability are crucial.
We advocate a holistic approach towards doing business, with many underlying principles, approaches and messages to be absorbed and learned.
To-date, BEing human’s assistance to its beneficiaries has been focused on education and livelihood projects, and in small measures to housing and micro-financing.
Our foundation is a charitable trust with no particular religious or political orientation! We draw support from a broad representation on our Board of Trustees. These individuals include Fr. Prof. Dr. Benigno P. Beltran, Parish Priest of the Smokey Mountain community, Tondo, Manila - Francis D. Lumen, President and Managing Director of MTV Philippines - Dr. Rosalinda Ora'a-Fuentes, Dean of SAIDI (South East Asian Interdisciplinary Institute), Manila - Atty.
